Let’s be honest—healthcare in the U.S. can be confusing. And when you hear about something like GolfRx, your first question might be:
“This sounds amazing, but is it actually covered by insurance?”

The answer is: Yes—often, it is.

That’s because GolfRx isn’t just recreational golf. It’s a structured wellness program delivered in partnership with licensed mental health providers, and that makes a big difference.

How It Works

Most GolfRx participants work with a licensed therapist who structures self-paced clinical sessions using the golf course as the setting. These sessions address real mental health concerns—like stress, anxiety, PTSD, burnout, and more—and are billed like any other therapy session.

Because the therapist is credentialed and the care is medically necessary, insurance plans often cover it the same way they would cover an in-office appointment.

What’s Typically Covered

  • 🏥 Individual therapy sessions held outdoors (on the course)

  • 🧠 Treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and more

  • 🧾 Superbills for out-of-network reimbursement if your therapist is not in-network

  • 💳 HSA/FSA reimbursement for your participation fees, tee times, or GolfRx membership if part of a treatment plan

What Might Not Be Covered

  • Golf club rentals

  • Driving range practice outside of structured sessions

  • Recreational rounds played without a licensed provider or documented treatment plan

  • Add-on packages (like extra tee times beyond what’s included in your plan)

What You’ll Need to Qualify

Most people don’t need anything complicated—just a few key pieces:

  • A diagnosable condition like anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc.

  • A referral or intake session with a GolfRx-approved therapist

  • Insurance coverage that includes mental health (most do now under the ACA)

  • Willingness to actively participate in your wellness plan (we help with that part)

What If You Don’t Have Insurance?

GolfRx is still available. You can pay out-of-pocket at a lower rate than most therapy clinics charge per hour. We also offer flexible memberships that allow you to experience the benefits of golf and guided wellness without needing a diagnosis or referral.

We’ll walk you through every option—no pressure, just clarity.

Whether you’re a long-time golfer or someone who’s never touched a club, you deserve care that’s engaging, natural, and accessible.

And yes, insurance may just pick up the tab.
